The Soft Palate vibrates, causing the ‘snore’. The Epiglotis may also restrict the airflow and may even cause ‘Sleep Apnoea’.

Snoring often occurs when the soft tissue at the back of your throat vibrates as you breathe, usually when you are sleeping on your back. In this position, you may be breathing through your mouth, which allows your jaw to move back towards your throat and partially block your airway.

You may have been told by family members that you snore or your sleeping partner may tell you that you wake suddenly during sleep, gasping for air. You may feel that you don’t get good sleep and are always a bit tired even after a normal period of sleep at night.

Snoring is one of the most common symptoms of sleep apnoea and your dentist can help you with snoring treatments that will allow you to enjoy a restful night’s sleep.

Normal airflow.

Snoring often occurs when the soft palate near the roof of the mouth relaxes when a person is asleep and restricts airflow, causing a vibration and thus snoring.

For those with problems like bruxism, our dentists may recommend NTI splints to reduce night-time tooth clenching and grinding which may contribute to problems like headaches and migraines.

At Oatlands Dental Lounge in Weybridge, Dr Neil Paryani is trained to provide anti-snoring devices for patients who may benefit from such therapy. Obstructive sleep apnoea is a condition that can have serious consequences, so your treatment evaluation and your condition assessment are vital.

Snoring devices are quite simple and work by positioning and holding your jaw forward, during sleep. This positioning also aids in keeping your tongue from relaxing back into your throat and blocking your airway. You can then breathe freely and reduce or eliminate your snore.

Affordable and comfortable, snoring devices are a valuable treatment option that your Oatlands dentist will be happy to discuss with you.
